underwater photography exhibit on sunken ship

“The Vandenberg: Life Below the Surface”

Austrian photographer (and diver) Andreas Franke shot a series of underwater photographs of the the Gen. Hoyt S. Vandengerg, a ship that was sunk off the coast of Key West, Florida to create an artificial reef for sea life.   He then photographed actors and recreated scenes of what life may have been like aboard the ship before it sunk.  The final exhibit, The Vandenberg: Life Below the Surface, presents a combination of the two photo sets.  The gallery images were enclosed in plexiglass and installed 90 ft underwater along the walls of the same ship, the Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, accessible to divers. Because, you know- every things betta down where it’s wetta. Pretty sure he cited the little mermaid as a major inspiration. Images via thecoolist.
